Christ Church Fernie is a uniquely Anglican community filled with folks from all walks of life. We are a blended community of life-long cradle Anglicans, as well as those of other denominations (United Church, Lutheran, Baptist, etc) as well as folks who are not of any denomination and some who are seeking.
We may not have all the answers, but we do enjoy searching for answers.
Our community offers worship three times a week.
Sunday at 8:30 am we gather for the traditional Book of Common Prayer worship. Service is a said service, contemplative and lasts about 45 minutes. It includes scripture, prayer, homily and communion (Eucharist). It is a service that hearkens back to another century. While solemn in language, it's never boring.
Sunday at 9:30 am we gather for the contemporary Book of Alternative Services worship. Service is a choral (sung) service and lasts about an hour. It includes scripture, prayers, homily, hymns and communion (Eucharist). Children are welcome to come and play with our Incumbent. She often includes children in the liturgy, helping with setting the table, or hanging out in the sanctuary. Every so often a service of healing is included during communion for folks who are in need of God's healing in a more physical way. This is done through anointing with holy oil and prayer.
Twice a month we offer a program called "Connect" that is an inter-generational gathering that begins with supper, a story, a song and an activity. It is offered between 4:30 and 6:30 pm, generally the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Watch the home page for dates and check out the Connect information on the Mission & Ministries page.
Wednesday at 10:00 am we offer a said service featuring the Saints, taken from For All the Saints. Worship lasts about an hour and we enjoy scripture, an overview/biography of the Saint and a brief homily. We all enjoy communion (Eucharist) and afterwards many of us head over to the Seniors Drop In Centre for coffee, tea and/or an early lunch. Expect an invitation...but no pressure.
We also offer Bible Study at different times of year and are looking into opportunities for book studies. We have special services during Advent, Lent and Holy Week as well as community services a couple of times a year.
With our early service times on Sunday it gives plenty of time to worship before you hit the ski slopes or the golf course. Come and check us out...we'd love to see you.
