Mission and Ministries

Christ Church, Fernie is delighted to be part of many local, national and international ministries.
The two main areas of focus for us are:  Encouraging Families of Faith and Feeding the Hungry.  We are also charged with the Stewardship of our Buildings (the Church and Rectory).  We are pleased to provide space to two AA groups (Sunday and Wednesday nights) as well as a Tuesday morning Meditation Group, Take It Off, Keep It Off (Weight loss group) Wednesday afternoons and Days for Girls on the 4th Monday of each month.  To learn more of these ministries, please see below and the links page.

If you are interested in renting our Parish Hall, please check out our Rental Policy.

Due to covid-19 most of these ministries are on hold...for now...

Ministry through teaching,
presence and doing...

Milestones - Celebrating milestones in our Christian journey such as Baptism, Confirmation, Weddings and Celebrations of Life.  Support and preparation for all of these ministries is available.

Mostly, Sometimes, but not Always Outdoor Church - Using the model of Messy Church we gather, mostly, sometimes, but not always outdoors, where we sing songs, share stories, play games, do fun things, eat wonderful food and celebrate Jesus.

Senior's Ministry - Encouraging ministry with, by and for seniors with monthly communion services at Rocky Mountain Village (3rd Sunday at 1:30 pm in the Serenity Room) and monthly Storytelling Ministry at Trinity Lodge (4th Sunday at 1:30 in the Lounge).
Communion Service at Rocky Mountain Village service is a traditional service with songs, scripture, homily and communion.
Storytelling Ministry at Trinity Lodge is a laid-back form of worship with a single scripture, a story/biography told of that passage/character followed by a conversation and communion.  Fellowship and further conversation follows.

Days for Girls - a local group who gathers monthly on the 4th Monday to sew feminine hygiene products for girls in developing countries.  We collect travel sized soap, large Ziploc bags, colourful fabric and washcloths to be used in these kits.  Baskets are in the Gathering Space.

Holy Days Outreach - Each year at Christmas and Easter the congregation takes a special offering that is sometimes directed to local and national/international initiatives.  Locally we have donated to Fernie Friends for Friends, Elk Valley Hospice, Holy Family Refugee Initiative, the Salvation Army, the Tom Uphill Manor, the PARTY program and STARS.  Beyond the Elk Valley we have supported PWRDF, Giving with Grace program supporting Indigenous Languages and Together in Mission

KIVA - an organization that extends micro-loans to women and families in developing countries.

Partnering with the Salvation Army we spend time ringing bells for the Christmas kettle drive as well as donating to their food bank and Christmas basket initiatives.

PWRDF - a national initiative of the Anglican Church of Canada, PWRDF provides nutrition programs to women and children at risk as well as disaster relief around the globe.
